Pay It Forward Scholarship
The cost of education is growing more and more each year and it is not getting any easier for students to afford. There can be a number of barriers that may arise and prevent someone from furthering their education or even have to reprioritize some things in life and make hard decisions. Thanks to a generous donor, paying for one’s education can be just a little more affordable. An anonymous donor, who took quite a unique path to completing their education, wants to help another student ease their journey just a little bit. They believe that access to education does not have to be as hard as one may think.
A $10,000 gift was given specifically to UNI’s Center for Urban Education (UNI-CUE) in order to reach more students who are financially disadvantaged, low income and first generation. The hope is to ease some of the financial burden. The purpose of this scholarship follows the “paying it forward” concept. The donor was given a gift because someone saw a need for their unique situation and they are looking to help someone in the same way.
The recipients that are chosen will be awarded a $1,000 award. This scholarship is an Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) Program scholarship. EOC is a federally funded TRIO program that aims to assist and provide educational access to low-income and first generation students who may not be aware of resources available to help them along with their educational journey.
To be eligible for the scholarship, you must meet the eligibility requirements and be enrolled in the EOC program. For more information on the EOC program and to apply click HERE
