Programs & Services

In addition to its STEM programming, UBMS prepares high school students for postsecondary success by supporting them in completing high school, enrolling in college, and pursuing their long-term career goals.

UBMS offers two key components to support student growth: the academic-year program and the summer residential program.

Academic Year

During the academic year, students connect with their UBMS counselor at least twice a month for personalized guidance and support. They also participate in four hours of tutoring each week to build strong study skills, receive the academic assistance they need, and learn alongside peers who support each other’s success.

Each month, students join a grade-specific session designed to deepen their academic, STEM, career, financial, and life-readiness skills. These sessions help students build confidence, stay on track, and prepare for future opportunities.

Students also broaden their horizons through immersive, hands-on career exploration. From field trips and interactive experiences to partnerships with university departments and other dynamic program activities, UBMS students discover new interests and gain real-world insight into potential career pathways.

Summer Academy

During the summer, UBMS hosts a six-week residential program on UNI's campus that gives students an exciting preview of college life. Each day, students take preparatory classes designed to strengthen their academic foundation and boost their confidence for the upcoming school year.

In the afternoons and evenings, students dive into a variety of STEM activities, educational workshops, specialized campus programming, recreational events, and field trips—creating a fun and supportive environment where learning extends far beyond the classroom.

The summer residential program offers students the chance to experience campus living, build academic momentum, connect with new friends, and enjoy six weeks filled with growth, exploration, and FUN!
