Application Process
Eligibility
Upward Bound Math & Science is a federally funded TRIO program that provides academic support to low-income and/or first-generation students, as well as students who are at high risk for academic failure. To qualify, students must meet all of the following qualifications:
- Low-income and/or first-generation student
- First generation meaning their parents have not obtained a bachelor’s degree
- Are currently in 9-12 grade or have completed 8th grade and attend/plan to attend one of the program’s target high schools:
- East High, West High, Expo
- Have an interest in exploring a STEM career
- Science, Technology, Engineering or Math

Get an Application
Interested students can choose one of the following ways to obtain an application:
- Download a UBMS Student Application
- Get a paper copy from their high school counselor
- Stop by UNI-CUE (800 Sycamore St.) to get a paper copy

Complete the Application
Only complete applications will be considered. Please ensure the entire application is filled out, including the essay and school references.

Return the Application
Completed applications may be returned to your student’s school office or UNI-CUE.

Meeting & Notification
A UBMS staff member will contact you to set up a meeting with the parent(s)/guardian(s) and student. Students selected for the program will be notified.
Application & References
The student application is a fillable PDF that can be emailed or printed out and returned to UBMS. Students also need two school references as part of the application process.
